Our music class within Main Street School aims to foster a love and skill in music by taking a unique, hands-on approach to learning. Each grade has the opportunity to first explore, dance, sing, and play their way through the joy of music! We then progress slowly through music theory and learn to sing, play, read, and write musical notation on the staff. Most of all, we aim to engage our students as we learn and grow in this beautiful field that God has given us! We draw from the elements of Kodaly, Orff, and Dalcroze in our curriculum.
We prepare each grade for the following ensembles :
Bucket Drum Ensemble: students learn to read and perform rhythm notation by reading on the drum staff!
Handbell Ensemble: students learn to read rhythms and play as a handbell choir! We have special selections for Christmas and Easter!
Worship Rock Band: each student picks from a variety of workshops: keyboard, guitar, bass, drums, or vocals. They study their instrument throughout the year and learn to play and perform as a worship band!
Choir Basics: Students learn common choir warmups and the basics of singing in part harmonies. They explore the voice that God has given them and practice utilizing their unique instrument as we sing together!
Strings Ensemble (Coming Soon!)
Upon graduation from our musical program at Main Street School, students will have an advantage if they choose to continue in their love of music, in either band, orchestra, choir, or personal endeavors.
